Folk Art Painting

This five day workshop will focus on the importance of culture and symbolism in artwork. Kids will be introduced to different art-making methods that carried cultural identity for centuries! Lessons will deal with a range of materials and techniques and sources for building upon these concepts. Our final gathering will include an exhibition and award ceremony!

Contemporary Dance

This class is an exploration of body and mind through movement. We will be exploring improvisation and composition techniques such as body, energy, space, and time. Using different imagery tasks students will explore the possibilities of movement and how to create a multi-dimensional piece of work.

Paper Art

In this class we will also explore the versatility of paper as an art medium. Our projects will come from experimenting with Paper mâché, paper marbling, paper beads as well as making our own handmade paper! After a week of hands-on activities, students will bring home their original creations and a broader view of what art can be.

Watercolor

If your child loves to paint they will love this class. They will learn basic Watercolor techniques while getting messy. Creativity is encouraged!

Simulated Stained Glass

This class is inspired from Frank Lloyd Wright and Marc Chagall’s stained glass art. We will train our eyes to see and create geometric shapes from organic elements of nature, create compositions arranging geometric shapes for rhythm and balance, then apply our knowledge of composition design to personal narratives based on Marc Chagall’s dreamlike stained glass scenes. We will use geometric and organic shapes to unify our composition in simulated stained glass narratives. As we place our personal narratives in light we will see how they are illuminated and brought to life in new ways!

Color My World

In this class we will explore the use of color to express meaning and evoke emotion. Taking inspiration from art movements of the early 1900′s including Fauvism, Expressionism, and Cubism, we will construct scenes from the world around us abstractly. We will focus on creating compositions inspired by subject matter that is most important to us in fun and memorable ways. Each day will involve new opportunities to interact with fellow classmates and use color to explore and express our world!
