Beginning Drawing-If you have always loved to draw or maybe just wanted to give it a try, this is a great class for you. This class, which is run like a basic college drawing course, will help you to develop new skills, introduce you to new techniques, and increase your appreciation for the art of drawing. This class is also great for high school students who are getting ready to submit portfolios. Topics covered in this course include the importance of design, principles of linear perspective, the expressive power of line and shading. Most work in this class is based on observation from life and will culminate in drawing a portrait from life.

For more advanced students who have either already taken my foundation drawing course or have been approved by the instructor based on a portfolio review, this class provides the opportunity for you to continue to develop your skills, and associate with, and get feedback from other artists who share your passion. Projects in this class build on the skills and principles taught in the foundation course. New mediums and techniques are introduced. More emphasis is placed on design and we look further into understanding light and shadow. This class also focuses on drawing from life.

Restructured from previously taught classes, Simon will offer new information for the returning student and build on different principles than were previously taught. The average class will involve a half-hour to forty-five minute lecture, demonstrations, and at least two hours of work time with ongoing critique. Diane Turner – in her own words: "It's hard to believe I have taught for over 25 years at Bountiful/Davis Art Center. I have learned my skill from masters, Tony Rasmussen, LeConte Stewart and many others. I feel an obligation to pass this knowledge on to others, that it might add the joy to their lives that I have experienced. I have found that our class work has enabled others to escape for a moment from the distraction of life and see the beauty that is all around us. This is a great honor for me to have had this opportunity in my life. PASS IT ON!"
This was quoted from Diane Turner when she received the Inaugural Foundation Award in Education at Bountiful/Davis Art Center in 2009 at the Annual Meeting. In her humility she may scoff at this but BDAC considers her a ‘Living Legend’. We are honored that she teaches at Bountiful/Davis Art Center.

Simon Winegar was educated both formally and informally in art and has worked as a professional artist for the past 8 years. His work has been exhibited in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institute, the Springville Museum of Art as well as the Museum of International Masters of Contemporary Fine Arts. Simon's work has garnered appreciation through books and articles including Southwest Art, American Art Collector, and Artists Bluebook.
