Contemporary Illustrators Exhibit plus Paintings by Sandra Rast Bountiful/Davis Art Center - September 12 - October 10, 2008

BOUNTIFUL, Utah, August 26, 2008 –Bountiful/Davis Art Center presents the Eighth Contemporary Illustrators Invitational featuring some of the best working illustrators in Utah plus paintings by Bountiful artist Sandra Rast.

Emma J. Dugal, BDAC Director says, “We are excited to present this high caliber of working illustrators again to the public. Some of them have exhibited here in past Illustrators Exhibits and some are new to the exhibition.”

The participating illustrators are: Mark Robison, Anne Marie Oborn, Robert McKay, Greg Newbold, Rob Colvin, Sherry Meidell, Robert Barrett, Nathan Paret, Ben Sowards, Bethanne Anderson, Joel Izatt, Ron Brown, Mark Buehner, Rebecca Mann, Chris Hawkes, Paul Mann, Steve Kropp, Richard Hull, Jerry Thomson, Micah Harman and more. There will be an Opening Reception on September 19 at 7pm at Bountiful/Davis Art Center, 745 So.Main Street in Bountiful. Come and meet the artists, enjoy hors d’oeuvres and be inspired by the art and presentation.

In addition to these illustrators, BDAC will present an evening with Rudy Gutierrez, Illustrator from New Jersey entitled: Making Fire: “Walking Your Path”. Taking Risks, pursuing originality and finding a personal voice are hallmarks of this artist. Get an intimate look from Rudy Gutierrez as he takes you on a fascinating journey filled with art, illustration, and stories of finding value in who you are and inspiring others to walk their own path. See how he breathes life into his ideas and expands his personal concepts. This will take place on Friday, September 19 at 8pm during the Opening Reception of the exhibit.

Rudy Gutierrez is a Pratt Institute graduate, where he now teaches, whose artwork has been widely published and exhibited in the United States and internationally. Notable clients include: Sony, Rolling Stone Magazine, Verve Records, Arista Records, NY Times, Viking/Penguin, Pepsi, etc. He has received many awards including the Dean Cornwell Hall of Fame Recognition Award, Distinguished Educator in the Arts Award and a Gold Medal from the NY Society of Illustrators. His work has been featured in Communication Arts, Society of Illustrators Annuals and Art Direction Magazine to name a few. He has been described as ancient yet contemporary, urban in a sense and musical in feel. He is proud to have participated in exhibits and publications addressing societal ills and promoting the

semination of truth. He has contributed art to the First Annual Anti-Apartheid show at the United Nations, and donated art to the International Cultures Foundation and the World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa.

Additionally, the Patrons Gallery at BDAC will exhibit paintings by Sandra Rast, well-known Bountiful artist. Ms. Rast has exhibited and sold her work widely throughout the Mountain West. From her earliest memories, the love of art and the passion of painting have been a great influence in her life. Growing up in a busy family of eight children, she learned hard work and was involved in many projects including a family produce business. Through these experiences she learned an appreciation for the beauty of the earth. Her artwork has sold internationally and she is always happy to hear from those who have been touched by her art. Her love of family and landscape/cityscape are reflected in her paintings. Sandra . majored in art at BYU and U of U. and has taken workshops and classes from numerous teachers including BDAC teachers, Norma Forsberg, Diane Turner and Nancy Lund. Inspired by impressionist artists John Singer Sargeant, Renoir, Monet, John Constable and Fragonard, she calls her style Impressionistic Realism.

She lives in Bountiful with her husband and has four children and five grandchildren. Sandra will be at the Opening Reception on September 19. The exhibit will remain at BDAC until October 10. Exhibit hours are Mondays, 5-9pm, Tuesday-Friday, 10am-6pm and Saturdays, 2-5pm. BDAC is closed on Sundays and holidays and in between exhibits.
