Bountiful/Davis Art Center Presents a New Exhibit, January 9- February 16, 2009

BOUNTIFUL, Utah, December 15, 2008 - BDAC is the first venue to exhibit a collaborative group show called: The 9 Muses featuring 18 artists and poets. This exhibit arose from a previous project of collaborative work between poet Shawn Stradley and artists Namon Bills and Steven Stradley as part of “The State Street Project: A Portrait of Utah” that showed at BDAC in May of 2008. In the Greek pantheon the muses were the goddesses of the arts and sciences, the source of all inspiration. Now a group of Utah poets and artists have found their inspiration in the muses and are creating an interdisciplinary exhibit of poetry and visual art based on the goddesses of inspirations.

The artists are:

The poets are:

  • Tom Aaron - Salt Lake City
  • Namon Bills - Spanish Fork
  • Linnie Brown - Lehi
  • Sandy Brunvand - Salt Lake City
  • Chad Crane - Salt Lake City
  • Denise Gasser - Salt Lake City
  • Steph Johnsen - Logan
  • Steven Stradley - SLC
  • Justin Wheatley - Salt Lake City
  • Lynne Elise Benson - Salt Lake City
  • Brian Gray - Salt Lake City
  • Lisa Gustavson - Salt lake City
  • Ethan William Higbee - SLC
  • Darlene Johnson - Salt Lake City
  • David Clark Knowlton - Orem
  • Eileen McCabe - Salt Lake City
  • Shawn Dallas Stradley - SLC
  • Ashley Walton - Provo

Tara Robertson of Bountiful, Utah will exhibit works in clay. The collection is called the “Offspring Series” and explores the relationship between parent and child in vessels that, though separate, literally rely on each other for balance and completion.

Cindy McConkie of Brigham City will exhibit abstract color photos that explore light, color and transcendence. Exhilarated by the lights’ ability to change, intensify, or nullify the color of an object, she works shooting controlled, close-up images of objects that refract and reflect light.

Scott Nelson Foster of Logan explores structures in which people make their homes in watercolor and oil. He captures a sense of nostalgia for the past and ambivalence for the future in his work. Through his paintings, the viewer experiences a narrative of American existence.

Aaron Bushnell of Bountiful has an impressionistic style that reflects his “need to paint”. His subject matter is often urban; freeways, refineries, and other industrial parts in and around Utah. The artist is interested in how these areas contribute to and affect the world. Though his subject matter differs from the impressionists of the 19th century, the loose brushwork and atmospheric virtuosity remains.

Christopher Thornock of Bountiful works in oil to capture subjects from banal to extraordinary. His has a figurative style immersed in naturalism reminiscent of the Masters. “[His] art is a way to share the initial spark and the intense study afforded each subject”.

The Opening Reception for the exhibit is January 9 from 7-9pm. Come meet the artists, enjoy hors d’oeuvres and experience the variety of art presented by 23 artists in this exhibit at Bountiful/Davis Art Center, 745 So. Main Street in Bountiful.

BDAC exhibits are open to the public with no admission charge. See the website for hours of operation. BDAC is closed on holidays and Sundays and in between exhibits.
