Spring Class Schedule at Bountiful/Davis Art Center

BOUNTIFUL, Utah, March 24, 2010 – Bountiful/Davis Art Center is now offering several new classes scheduled to begin March 31, continuing through May 19. Students may now register by purchasing classes online at www.bdac.org  Classes offer something for everyone, and encourage learning a new skill as well as developing existing talents.  This spring’s offerings have a variety of children’s classes including drawing, Learn about the Masters, YogaArts, and sculpting.  A special parent & child workshop will be offered for those interested in creating functional hand built pottery.  Adult classes this quarter are of exceptional quality, taught by highly regarded artists such as Diane Turner, Diana Gardiner, Michael Call, and Shey Rauch.  Classes include university quality instruction in landscape oil, watercolor, and sculpting.  Figure Study is available to serious artists seeking a chance to practice life drawing without formal instruction. New hands-on computer training courses taught by highly qualified instructor Shey Rauch are being offered through The Joy Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to bring joy through the arts to the young and old alike. Through creative presentations and workshops, The Joy Foundation hopes to bring each community a fresh new look at the future of our youth. Classes for children and youth include the following:

Parent & Child Pottery Workshop  taught by Tara Robertson
Saturday, April 17, 1:00 – 3:00 PM
Tuition: $30 + $15 Material Fee (1 day), $15 additional person                     Ages 5+
Create functional ceramic plates and mugs with your child. Learn about forming clay, decoration, and firing. When glazed, pieces will be food safe and may be cleaned in the dishwasher. Tuition includes one adult and one child.

Learn about the Masters taught by Theresa Otteson
Tuesdays, March 30 – May 11, No class April 6, 4:00 – 5:00 PM
Tuition: $65 + $5 material Fee (6 weeks)                  Ages 5 +               
From Degas to Van Gogh, this fun class introduces art history to students through hands on art projects.  Each week students will gain an insight on the life and times of great artists of the past while creating artwork using concepts used by these masters of art. Projects include making paint like Giotto, painting impasto like Van Gogh, and creating cubist work like Picasso. 

YogaArts for Ages 6-12 taught by Connie Day
TuESDAYS, March 30 – May 11, no class April 6, 4:15 - 5:00 PM
Tuition: $25 (5 weeks) or $7 drop in
Is your child inundated with a busy schedule full of school, activities, family, etc? Allow them unwind in this fun-filled yoga class designed to teach them how to reduce stress at a young age. They will learn techniques of breathing, yoga postures that are animals, and dabble in creative art to create their own yoga poses.  They will take home a piece of art each week! Have your child bring their own yoga mats to the first day of class.

Drawing Basics for Kids taught by Sarah Bigelow Maynard
Wednesdays, March 31– May 12, no class April 7, 4:00 - 4:45 Pm
tuition: $65 (6 weeks)                                                               ages 8 +
Students will learn basic drawing skills such as understanding line, form, perspective and proportion, and discover the mystery of tessellations in a creative environment as this very talented teacher brings the art of drawing to life right before their eyes. Kids will never look at their pencil and paper in the same way again!

Sculpture for Youth taught by Mike Call
Saturdays, January 23 – ongoing, 11:30 AM - 1:00 Pm
Tuition: $100 (8 weeks) Supplies not included        AGES 10-18
Students will sculpt a life sized portrait in clay, try plaster casting, and create a small animal figurine. Those students who participate in the Scouting program will be able to meet the requirements for a Sculpture Merit Badge. Students can register any time. Landscape Oil Painting taught by Diane Turner
Tuesdays, April 13 – May 11, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Tuition: $75 (5 weeks)
This class is designed for advanced artists who would like to hone their painting skills with this excellent teacher.  Register early to ensure a space in this popular class.  Please bring a reference to the first class from which to paint.

Watercolor for the Beginner to Advanced Painter taught by Diana Gardiner
Wednesdays, April 14 – May 19, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Tuition: $100 (6 weeks)
This class will focus on painting methods in watercolor.  There will be emphasis on techniques as well as careful attention to composition.  The objective is to develop an individual approach to the watercolor medium by using desired techniques and personal photographs as subject matter.  Supplies not included and will be discussed during first class.  Bring any supplies you have on hand to the first class.

Wednesdays, March 31 – May 12, No class on April 7, 7:00 - 9:30 pm
tuition: $55 (6 weeks) or $10 drop in
Back by popular demand, this open forum of drawing from life will give artists an opportunity to work alongside their peers.  Models will be provided and there is no formal instruction. Serious artists only.   Students must be 18 years old in order to register for this class. **Must have 6 registered students for this class to run.

Sculpture for Adults taught by Mike Call
Saturdays, April 3 - Ongoing, 10:00 – 11:30 AM
Tuition: $100 (8 weeks) Supplies not included
Open to beginners through advanced students who would like to work with the instructor to develop a personalized program to meet individual needs.  Beginning students who prefer to be guided will be working on 18” - 30” figures with an emphasis placed on anatomy, proportion, gesture, and drapery. Instructor will be available for consulting and critiquing for advanced students. Optional directions of study include: portraits, figures, anatomy studies, casting and mold making, and drapery. Tuition: $95 (6 hour workshop)
Learn to alter photographs in multiple ways.  Get rid of red eye, fix color contrast, work with levels and histograms, use the healing brush, clone tool, adjustment layers and filters. Learn to bring out the best in your photographs using Photoshop.  Computers are provided for use in class (limited laptops available) or bring your own laptop. Need basic working knowledge of Microsoft Windows. Basic knowledge of Photoshop is helpful. 

Art & Design in Photoshop CS4
Mondays, April 26, May 3 & 10, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Fridays, June 4, 11 & 18, 10:00 Am – 1:00 PM
Tuition: $135 (10 hour workshop)
Whether you are creating images for the web, for print or for your own personal use, this class will teach you some basic principles of design and how to incorporate these into your own Photoshop documents.  We will simplify effects, filters, adjustments and layers so you can master various type effects, replicate famous artist styles or design your own poster or sign.  And this is just the beginning.  Cost of class includes book.  Computers are provided for use in class (limited laptops available) or bring your own laptop. Need basic working knowledge of Microsoft Windows.

FREE EVENT!  Family Encounters of the Art Kind held every third Monday, 7:00 – 8:30 pm

Come enjoy this FREE and fun way to learn about gallery etiquette and art with your family and friends.  Visit the north gallery for a quick mini lecture, search the galleries with a fun “I Spy” then, in our classrooms downstairs, try an art project that you can make and take home.
