April 11- Vehicle Grid Drawing
Grid drawing is a great step towards realism for your older students. It helps them focus on sketching small segments of an image instead of the entire image all at once, which can be overwhelming to some. Students will choose a vehicle source image from the provided options or print a vehicle of their choice and recreate an enlarged version by using a gridding system. Line, shape and proportion are all important factors when deciding what and where to draw inside each grid square and then an urban background will be added.
April 18th-Patterned Food Truck Collage
Finding a food truck in an urban parking lot is a favorite for both kids and adults alike. In this lesson, students will be able to choose what food they’d like to sell from their own food truck from ice cream to tacos and everything in-between. Students will use colored pencils to begin to add details and patterns to their vehicle and there is also an added focus on shapes when constructing the truck. Then they will collage their foo truck into an environment.
April 25th-Tractor Printmaking
This printmaking lesson featuring a tractor is both technical and fun. Students will begin by using lines to draw a tractor from observation. Then, they will transfer their drawing to a piece of scratch foam to create their very own printing plate. They’ll use brayers and printing ink to create several prints as well as exploring mark-making with some other less-conventional printing tools, like Legos, bubble wrap, corrugated cardboard and liquid tempera paint on brightly colored paper that will be used to create the energetic, patterned background.
May 2-1980's Glow in the Dark Supercar
Whether you think of hot rods, muscle cars or sports cars, there’s no denying that there were some stunning automobiles on the road during the big hair era of the 1980s. In fact, many of those cars still stand out today. In this lesson, students will be focusing on using contour lines to draw an iconic 80s car of their choice from observation and then creating an arcade-like, 80s-themed background that creates a sense of space. The use of neon colors on black paper creates contrast that is further emphasized when displayed under a blacklight to reveal an awe-inspiring glow.
