Recommended skill level: Intermediate to advanced.
Do you have experience as an oil or acrylic painter but are looking to branch out into portraiture and figure work? Then this class is for you! In this course students will learn advanced techniques such as direct vs. indirect painting, glazing, how to better employ mediums to your paint, and how to create narrative using the human figure and its surrounding environment. The first half of the course will be spent studying classical realist methods in portraiture, and the second half will be spent helping students develop their individual voice as painters, under the stylistic direction of each painter's preference. In addition, students will learn basic art history, business practices, and how to market themselves as an artist.
