Class Description
June 2nd: Eiffel Tower In this lesson, students will create a symmetrical Eiffel Tower, using a simple form of grid drawing and cutting. They will then add shadows and lines to help give the tower a sense of form and details. To finish off, the tower can be glued on a faux blueprint background. Students can even add facts about the Eiffel Tower for fun. June 3rd: Colosseum in Rome This lesson, featuring the iconic Colosseum in Rome, Italy, is both an exercise in detailed line work and loose painting. Students have the choice to draw the Colosseum either from a drawing guide, from observation or a combination of both. Then they will use a fine-tipped marker to hatch, cross-hatch, and scumble to add value, which will help to create form. As a finishing touch, students will add a sketchy wash of watercolor to add a splash of color. June 4th: Rainy Day in London London, England has a skyline full of iconic architecture, from Big Ben to the London Eye and St. Paul’s Cathedral. In this lesson, students will create a layered London cityscape with some of those iconic sites simplified into marker line drawings. Then students will give their cityscape a rainy day look by painting over their marker with water. This fun, simple technique makes this cityscape come alive! Finally, students will collage red objects, such as a double-decker bus and telephone booth, onto their cityscape. A Walk in London by Salvatore Rubbino. June 5th: Autobahn Racecars from Germany This one-point perspective drawing is sure to capture the attention of your students. Inspired by the autobahn, the highway system in Germany that is known for its high-speed limits, this lesson allows students to design their own cars and use size to create a sense of space in their drawing. Students will also learn to layer colored pencils to create custom colors and use value to add shadows.
