SILENT FILMS WITH LIVE MUSIC
Saturday, September 11, 2021
Bountiful Davis Art Center is proud to present the Annual Silent Film Festival.
When silent films debuted over 100 years ago, theaters would hire musicians to play alongside them. Bountiful Davis Art Center will recreate this experience all day Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm.
Each year hundreds of musicians, local bands, and studios gather at BDAC to perform live music to silent films. This fundraiser supports the Music Program. The money raised during the festival directly subsidizes the stage rental for the community. This festival will offer students a performance opportunity and will also be a way to continue showing these notable historical films.
This fun family activity is appropriate for all ages to come and enjoy live music. Films shown at the festival include Charlie Chaplin's The Adventurer, Easy Street, and The Immigrant. Buster Keaton's One Week, The Neighbors, The Goat, My Wife's Relations, The Scarecrow, The Balloonatic, The Love Nest Haunted House, and The Boat. The festival also offers an excellent opportunity to teach younger people how influential early filmmakers were to modern-day comedy, film directing, and storytelling.
Traditional cinema snacks and drinks will be sold.
Thank you to the Silent Film Festival Planning committee and participants of the 2021 Silent Film Festival.

Each movie is around 20 minutes long. Musicians are encouraged to use music that fits well into the movie scenes. Here is a sample timing sheet for Buster Keaton's The Haunted House. The film festival also offers an excellent opportunity for students and musicians to compose original music.
Participates will receive a one-year membership to the Bountiful Davis Art Center AND one complimentary stage rental for a recital to be used within one year of the festival date.
Films to choose from include Charlie Chaplin's The Adventurer, Easy Street, and The Immigrant. Buster Keaton's One Week, The Neighbors, The Goat, My Wife's Relations, The Scarecrow, The Balloonatic, The Love Nest Haunted House, and The Boat.
