TINA GARRETT: PIECES OF ME
RECEPTION: MAR 1 6 - 8 PM
"It is both terrifying and exhilarating to put my whole self out into the world for my first ever solo oil painting show, "Pieces of Me”. This is an intimate look into my unbounded inspirations that I cannot help but paint sparked by a wide range of subjects. From nudes to dancers to cowboys, in a vibrant approach to the Rorschach test, my goal is to maneuver into the hearts of those who view my work. Instead of dictating the meanings of my paintings with written narratives, a title, size, date and price is the only description I ever give. Instead, I delight in the narrative stories provided to me by the viewers, and in doing so, I gain insights into each viewer’s psyche. It isn’t “Pieces Of Me”, it is “Pieces of You”. I truly have enjoyed the varying stories and imaginative descriptions my viewers have provided me about my works since I started painting. In “Pieces Of Me” I again invite my audience to give their thoughts on my work in public notes left on the floor in front of the works and in online commentary through a special “Pieces Of Me” blog posting. I will read all of them and I know I will find them illuminating into the minds and hearts of the people who choose to engage in this fascinating exchange."
In 2012, based on her self-taught pastel portraiture, the Scottsdale Artists’ School awarded Tina the first of two merit scholarships and she began working in oil, immediately falling in love and hitting the ground running, dedicating 5 years to the full-time practice of understanding oil painting.
In addition to various recognitions by the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, and National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society, Tina is a two-time Purchase Award winner in the 11th and 12th International ARC Salons. Twice exhibiting at the Museum of Modern Art Europe (MEAM) in Barcelona, Spain, and the Salmagundi Club in New York City, Tina’s works, “City Blues” and “String of Pearls” are now part of the Art Renewal Center's renowned permanent collection.
In 2016, Tina earned a designation of ARC Associate Living Master from the Art Renewal Center and a Master Artist designation from the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society. Tina has intently studied the Selective Start Method described in Alla Prima by Living Master Artist and Author Richard Schmid, studied in workshops and private lessons with Romel de la Torre, and workshops with Casey Baugh, Aaron Westerberg, Jeremy Lipking, Tim Deibler, Michelle Dunaway, Stanka Kordic, Dennis Perrin and Kathy Anderson. In the course of her serious pursuit of fine art mastery, Tina has created a growing family of private collectors and commissioned clients in the U.S. and the U.K. and the Netherlands and is invited to teach workshops across the U.S. at private studios and art centers including the Scottsdale Artists' School, Village Arts of Putney, The Art Students League of Denver, Bountiful Davis Art Center and the Brush of Spring Hoosier Salon as well as internationally in Tuscany and Florence, Italy at The Florence Studio. Tina published her first instructional oil painting video in January 2019.
