Paper Clay Halloween Creatures w/ Aleta Boyce

Class Outline

1. Make paper clay using common materials and recycled paper. 

2. Work with paper clay - tips and tricks to make several shapes, including tentacles, eyeballs and leaves. 

3. Make simple armatures out of recyled objects, paper and grocery bags. 

4. Make your own monster.  Tea light (with an LED light, of course) or sculpture, these guys have as much personality as you'd like.  Self portrait or portrait of someone you know?  It's all up to you.  When you're finished you can gift it, keep it or start a collection. 

5. Paint and glaze your little monsters.

Students are encouraged to bring an apron, towel or rags, a scrubby to clean paper clay off your hands and work area, and any items they wish to include in the sculpture.

Aleta Boyce is an artist working in Utah.  She has a BA in drawing and painting from Cameron University in Oklahoma and a MEd Instructional Design and Educational Technology from the University of Utah.  Aleta taught drawing, painting and ceramics, as well as web design, computer graphics and digital photography at the high school and college levels for over 15 years. She designed, created and taught the Art History I and II courses for Utah Electronic High School and has worked in freelance and corporate commercial art most of her life.  She is seldom found without a sketchbook and watercolors and after retirement finally got the a studio that has plenty of space and access to her garden. She still paints, but mostly she creates unique assemblage sculptures that combine various materials such as ceramics, paper clay, found objects, caning, Unryu paper and LED lights.  You can find her work at aletaboyce.com
