CONVERSATIONS IN CULTURE

Join us for fun, free cultural events leading up to the festival.

MONDAY JUNE 3  6 - 7:30 PM

"Who I Am and Why I'm Here"

We’ve all heard the word “immigration” thrown around, especially in political conversations. But have you ever personally heard stories of the people involved? Come to BDAC's Conversations in Culture: Who I am and Why I'm Here to hear the stories of two families—one from Mexico and one from Venezuela—who immigrated to the U.S. Hear how they did it, why they did it, and what they left behind in the process.

MONDAY JUNE 17  6 - 7:30 PM

"American Waterfowl Decoys" Sponsored by Main Street Emporium

Learn about the great American folk art of hand-carving waterfowl decoys.  "Hunters first learned to make duck decoys from local Native Americans, who made them out of reeds and colored them with ash and other items from the earth. As the appeal of duck hunting picked up—presidents and celebrities would often come down to the coastal duck hunt clubs  of Virginia Beach...—the need for decoys increased, and carving them became a moneymaker in its own right." - Smithsonian Mag

MONDAY JUNE 24  6 - 7:30 PM

"Family Brazilian Fun Night" Sponsored by Club Pilates Bountiful

Brazilian life is about more than just soccer and samba. Come experience some lesser-known components of Brazilian culture at BDAC's Conversations in Culture: Family Brazilian Fun Night. Learn about the Brazilian martial art of capoeira-- which combines dance, music, fighting, and acrobatics in one entertaining round. Bring your dancing shoes and try out your skills in some traditional Festa Junina hillbilly dances. You just might find yourself jumping on the nearest plane to Brazil to experience more!

CHILDREN'S ART YARD

FRIDAY Noon - 8 PM

SATURDAY 11 - 8 PM

This area of the festival grounds is dedicated to providing free family-oriented arts and crafts projects.
