About

This 4-day summer camp will give students the opportunity to experiement with lots of different art materials and techniques!

June 3-Retro Rockets Painting-

Not only is this lesson a “blast” for kids to make, but it also emphasizes color, value, texture, drawing and mixed-media. The children begin by creating a splatter painted background for their rocket. Then students will draw a retro rocket of their choice on another paper and collage it onto the splatter background and add tissue paper flames for Blast off.

June 4-Mixed Media Self portrait in Space

This project is a wonderful opportunity to review the scientific accomplishments of space travel with a fun and engaging art activity. Children explore space in the scientific sense along with space as an element of art. They learn how to make the most out of the space of the paper to create an interesting composition of overlapping objects and the illusion of depth and movement. Combining the use of pastels with splatter painting and drawing makes for a fun and expressive art

June 5-Constellations Collage-

Understanding the constellations that make up our corner of our universe is a great way to appreciate the world around us. Students will learn about constellations and then pick on to create in a collage.

June 6th Lunar Landing Pastel Resist

Here is a project that combines American history with important art concepts in watercolor painting.  Reading through the book, One Giant Leap: The Story of Neil Armstrong, before starting the lesson helps give children an understanding of the importance of that day in history when man took his first step on the moon: a perfect way to celebrate and remember this day is through creating an artwork. Students will then draw their own version of the event in oil pastel and fill it in with watercolors.
