Class Description

Feb 6: Cozy Burrowing Animal Cozy, burrowing animals curl up for sleep beneath a painted blanket of snow in this lesson that covers the concepts of space, texture, and unity. Students will have their choice of animals to draw. February 12th: Hibernating Bear Who doesn’t love snuggling up on a chilly winter night? As the days start to get shorter and colder, this hibernating bear will have you dreaming of being bundled up under your favorite quilt and cozy winter nights. Line and texture are the main focuses, with different types of lines creating the designs on the colorful quilt and showing the texture of fur on the bear. Feb 19th: Cozy Bat Get ready to cuddle up in cuteness with these cozy sleeping bats. In the lesson, students will focus on shape and line while using oil pastels to complete a quick guided drawing of a bat on colored paper. Next, they’ll add a fun pattern on the bat’s cozy blanket before adding a nighttime background complete with stars. To finish, they’ll pull out the oil pastels one more time and draw in a tree branch and leaves for the bat to hang in. Feb 26: Forest Animal Nestled with a Book Cooler weather brings a natural desire to snuggle down with a good book, which is just what these cozy critters are doing in this leaf-printing art lesson. Students will start by creating a bright center that sets the stage for emphasizing the cozy critter later. Next, they’ll add overlapping leaf prints made by painting and pressing real leaves around the center, which adds a sense of space. It’s best to use fresh leaves and print them vein-side down to get the best results. To finish the project, they’ll use the handouts provided to draw an animal friend and then nestle it in its cozy winter hideaway.
