ARTIST STATEMENT: BRYCE OLSEN
As a black and white photographer, my work is driven by the pursuit of simplicity, nuance, and the world’s quiet subtleties. I seek to create images that distill the essence of a scene—focusing on form, light, and shadow to reveal the interplay of elements that shape our environment. Photographing with black and white film, and printing my images using traditional darkroom techniques, each print is a unique entity made by hand. Long exposures create a sense of serenity, while also inverting our perception of stillness and motion.

My photographs are not just visual records, but an exploration of balance, contrast, solitude and resilience. They evoke a quiet introspection, encouraging a deeper engagement with the world and its transient beauty. Each image is a dialogue between structure and atmosphere, discussing what is seen and what is felt, teaching me about the majesty, and the quiet mysteries of our world.

Ultimately, my images are about more than the physical landscapes they depict. They are an exploration of balance, contrast, solitude, and strength — inviting viewers to slow down and reflect on the subtle interactions between nature’s grandeur and it's more intimate, quiet moments.
