Art After School: Fall Flowers w/ Nancy Olson:

September 5th, Van Gogh Sunflowers

In this 2 step project, students will paint a background of a field and sky and then collage sunflowers on top of it to create a field of flowers similar to the the one Van Gogh painted in France.

September 12th, Helen Frankenthaler Watercolor Flowers

Based on the groundbreaking abstract expressionist and color field painter, Helen  Frankenthaler, students will explore multiple watercolor techniques to create the beautiful painted paper from which the free-flowing, organic flowers will be cut. They will then collage the papers together to create a gorgeous bouquet!

September 19th, Floral Still Life

In this lesson, students will create an arrangement of organic-shaped flowers that overlaps to create the illusion of space. As a final touch and a nod to Johnson, students will add a dark black outline around everything to create contrast.

September 26th, Georgia O'Keeffe 3-D Flowers

These larger-than-life three-dimensional paper flowers, inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, will have your students blooming with excitement. With the use of a paper bag as the basis for the flower petals, this lesson encourages students to go big. Assembling the flowers will have your students thinking about flower petal shapes and arranging a three dimensional composition. Through Georgia’s Eyes by Rachel Victoria Rodriguez and Julie Paschkis is a great literary accompaniment to this lesson to introduce students to O’Keeffe’s life and work.
