Jan 12- Wayne Thiebaud Cake Painting:

Artist Wayne Thiebaud’s iconic cake paintings are sure to spark your students’ interests! Watch as your art room becomes transformed into a bakery! Students will draw a cake that looks 3D and then color the cake’s outline with bright oil pastels. Students will “frost” the cakes with paint that is thickly applied with a popsicle stick. They won’t believe how much the paint’s texture

January 19- Surrealist Apple Mixed Media Painting

In this lesson, children use painted paper or colored paper for the backdrop to a colorful, surrealist apple. Children learn about René Magritte and why apples appear in many of his artworks. Children practice painting shapes, drawing patterns, and cutting paper.

Jan 26- Amelia Pelaez Fruit Still Life

Fruit is the focus in this energetic still life inspired by Cuban artist Amelia Peláez. Students will be drawing fruit of their choice and then painting their artwork with a warm and cool color scheme. Flowing black lines are added to give the background interest and create unique shapes, which are then filled with patterns for a bold, finishing touch
