March 2nd-Mona Lisa Tracing
Tracing provides your students a way to draw this iconic lady, without the pressure of getting all the details right on their own. The focus is adding value with chalk. Students will learn about this famous work of art and then do a chalk drawing after learning how to trace an image onto paper.
March 9th-Klimt Self Portrait in Gold
Klimt was a part of a group of artists that were tired of traditional art and wanted their art to symbolize something beyond the canvases. Using a combination of printmaking techniques and gold acrylic paint, put yourself in this era with this fun self-portrait.
March 16th-Olympian Self portrait
Students will love creating a portrait of themselves as an ancient Olympian. Winners of events in the ancient Olympics did not receive a medal, but instead a special crown made of olive leaves from a sacred olive tree near Zeus’ temple in Olympia. You can choose if your students create a golden or green crown of leaves. Students will learn about proportions and how to draw a face, then they will do a mixed-media portrait of themselves.
March 23rd-Byzantine Self Portrait
Students will learn about the masters of mosaics: the Byzantines. Then they will draw a portrait with accurate proportions and fill it in with repetitive colors and controlled paint strokes. Mosaic is an art that is made up of many small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials such as paper or ceramic. Students will learn to replicate this effect using paint.
All materials are provided.
