April  13- Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most widely-recognized buildings in the world. In this lesson, students will  focus on lines as they use a fun technique with black washable markers, a paintbrush, and water to make their tower. Then they’ll create a background to show space. Rather than leaving everything flat, they’ll roll their paper to create the cylindrical form of the tower and finish with some tissue paper flowers that bring a pop of color and some extra texture to the foreground.

April 20 Fiber Art Hobbit House

This lesson, inspired by the earth shelter hobbit homes from the Lord of the Rings book and movie series, combines many different fiber arts techniques: needle felting, decorative sewing, and embellishment with sewn-on elements like sequins, buttons, and beads. The student will make their own hobbit house to bring home out of these unique materials.

April 27 Frank Lloyd Wright Watercolor House

In this lesson, students can choose between designing their own Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired house within a landscape of their choice or creating a piece of art based on an existing Frank Lloyd Wright structure. In addition to focusing on the elements of line, shape, and space to make their art, students will draw their houses with rulers and basic geometry. Color is then added with pan watercolor and colored pencils.
