September 14- Romare Bearden Jazz Collage

Based on the artwork of collage artist Romare Bearden, this lesson incorporates collage along with other layered elements to create a lively composition of a jazz musician and their instrument. Have some fun making a textured background that even mimics the creative energy in jazz music.

September 21-Picasso's Three Musicians

In this lesson, students will use Picasso’s Three Musicians as their inspiration to combine drawing, cutting, gluing, and sponge painting into a lively collage. They marvel at his unusual worldview and the way he used Cubism to divide his subjects into shapes.

September 28-Kandinsky Musical Instruments Collage

Most of Kandinsky’s art was inspired by his love of music. This lesson incorporates Kadnisky's work as one of the pioneers of abstraction with musical instruments.  Drawing guitars and other musical instruments is not only fun and relatable for kids but technically challenging as well. Students will learn how to draw instruments and then incorporate collage elements like sheet music into the work.
