October 5th-Great Voyage Painted Map with Boat

There’s something exciting about setting off on a journey into the unknown. This lesson, based on the amazing travels of the Chinese explorer Zheng He, is all about planning your own voyage throughout the world. Students will create their own boat to traverse the seven seas, then create a painted world map with an actual path of their intended travel.

October 12- Salt Dough Maps

Creating this lesson is sure to be an experience that students will remember for years to come, as students will be able to create their map from the raw ingredients all the way up to the final product. This lesson features STEAM connections to math with the measuring of ingredients and science with states of matter and cartography.

October 26- Treasure Maps

Your students will get to use their imaginations to design a unique map of an imaginary land. They will learn about contour lines as they create an outline of their land and then add contour drawings to add map elements inside. This simple prep project uses only watercolors and sharpie to create imaginative maps.
