In the first two sessions, students will learn about color mixing, color theory, and what makes a good composition. The remaining classes will be spent painting and receiving one-on-one and group instruction. Oct 15- Nov 19 (Tuesdays, 6 classes) 2-4pm $95

About

Theresa graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Utah in 1996. Shortly after, she moved with her husband and two girls to Germany. She was able to spend four years working and traveling throughout Europe and had an art dealer in Frankfurt. After moving back to Utah, she worked as a Hospice aid and in the school system subbing for art instructors until landing a job as the Education Coordinator at the Bountiful Davis Art Center for five years where she used her passion to teach people of all ages how to create and appreciate art. She Left the art center in order to work full time as a classical artist and teacher. She continues to create beautiful paintings and teach classes and workshops at various places including Life Long Learning at the University of Utah and online for The Smithsonian Studio Arts program. 

Theresa has exhibited her paintings in galleries around the United States in competitions, group and solo exhibitions and has won various awards for her work. She has been commissioned to do work for various organizations including The American Heart Association in Utah and for the city of Farmington, Utah. Her paintings are in collections in Europe, Japan, and the United States, including, the Farmington City Building in Utah, the Davis County Courthouse, The Eccles Art Center, Bountiful Davis Art Center, and Sears Art Museum. Anchora imparo," meaning, "yet, I am learning a quote attributed to Michelango is a phrase that guides Theresa. She continues to research, study, and learn from master artists such as Tina Garrett, Caro Russo, and Dans Wilson. She also shares her passion to create by teaching classes and workshops.

OIL PAINTING SUPPLIES

Not everything on this list is absolutely required.  If you have some supplies, please just bring what you already have.

PAINT

Ultramarine Blue

Pthalo Blue

Cadmium Red Light

Alizarin Crimson

Cadmium Yellow Light or Hansa Yellow (it needs to be a lemony color)

Yellow Ochre

Burnt Sienna

Titanium White

Optional: Dioxizine Purple, Sap Green

BRUSHES

#2,6, 8, and 12 flat

# 2, #4 round

They can be bristle or sable. I prefer sable. You can buy synthetic sable, it works well and is less

expensive. You can add more brushes as you see fit.

OTHER EQUIPMENT

Diamond shaped Palette knife

Gamsol or another odorless mineral spirits

Painting medium such as Liquin or Gamblin’s Solvent Free Gel

Palette- I prefer glass. You can buy glass cutting boards with a smooth side in the kitchen supply area of

most stores.

Container with a lid to hold turpentine and in to clean brushes (it can be a glass mason jar)

Paper towel or rags. I like the blue automotive paper towels.

Two to three oil canvases. No larger than 11” x 14.”

Supplies can be purchased at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Peterson Art Center, which is a Dick Blick store.

NOTE: Please don’t get Artist's Loft paint or plastic palettes.

Class is for ages 18+.
