Creativity Workshop w/ Jayrod Garrett

All creatives must nurture creative energy. But in world that demands our time, our attention, and our money many of us wonder how to nurture anything. The question is: How? In this thirteen session class we’ll begin our exploration using the medium of poetry how to nurture our inner creative child and move on to working in the medium of the your choice. You’ll discover in a safe community how to make your creative energy sustaining, access flow regularly, and build a practice of visiting with the muse.

All students are asked to have access to a copy of "The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity" by Julia Cameron for weekly reading assignments. Classes will include a combination of lecture, group discussions, time to write poetry, and time to create in the medium of your choice (during the later weeks).

Jayrod P. Garrett (they/them) is a storyteller with an MFA in English: Creative Writing from the University of Nevada Reno. A transplant in Utah, they came on a three-week vacation as a child and incubated here for 40 years to bloom into a nonbinary, black, atheist, U.S. veteran with PTSD and ADHD. These intersections they’ve discovered over time have made them work towards a world where all of us can be comfortable, safe, and free. They have published work with the League of Utah Writers and currently work on poetry, novels, editing, and storytelling projects. They live in northern Utah with their spouse and three children.
