Painting the Natural Maps of Rocks Workshop
Join us for a fun, creative, and inspiring evening as we slow down and pay close attention to the intricate landscapes hidden within rocks. Using acrylic paint and fine-detail brushes, participants will carefully observe and paint the natural maps, lines, textures, and geological patterns that have formed over thousands—or even millions—of years.
This hands-on workshop is inspired by artists featured in our current exhibition, Anthropocene: Landscapes of Use, Memory, and Transformation.
Artist Andrea Di Castro uses GPS drawings as metaphors for the invisible paths we create as we move through the world. He also records the locations where he discovers rocks during his journeys, transforming them into archives of place and memory. Jaclyn Wright, in her Blaze Orange photographic series, overlays dotted orange lines onto landscapes to reveal how photography helps define, document, and codify land use. Katelyn…
