Tuesdays from 7-8:30 PM starting Sept. 7th and ending Nov 16th
This course introduces poetry to students through concepts and strategies designed to help them understand how poetry communicates to people. Nikki Giovanni’s says that, “Writers write from empathy” and we’ll be engaging with our own emotions to connect to ourselves as well as to others in writing our poetry. Every effort will be made to create a space for each student to safely share their thoughts, feelings, and words with other members of our class.
Course Text:
Structure and Surprise edited by Michael Thuene. We’ll be utilizing this text as well as several poems found at https://structureandsurprise.com.
