Traditional Art with Nancy Andruk Olson

In this class each month we will focus on a different aspect of traditional art. Emphasis will be placed on the elements and principles of design and students will learn techniques that will help develop their artistic skills. 

Observational Drawing

Students will start with a line drawing using a masterwork as a reference. They will learn how to use a grid system to plan out a proportional drawing. Then the students think in a different way as they explore value in reverse, focusing on highlights, rather than shadows. This lesson also features grid drawing, which will help students learn how to break visual information from a source image down into smaller pieces, making drawing more intricate details a bit less overwhelming. Though this lesson looks complicated, the materials used to create it couldn’t be simpler; with just a handful of materials, students can create a milkshake.

No experience is necessary, and all supplies are provided.
