Taming Emotions Through Art

Aatmica Ojha

Exhibition Run Dates:

01.14 – 03.27

The Art of Taming Emotions is an immersive abstract expressionist exhibition by Aatmica Ojha that explores emotional awareness as a pathway to healing and well-being.

Through layered color, movement, and abstraction, Ojha’s work invites viewers to reflect on the full spectrum of human emotion—acknowledging stress, grief, and anxiety while consciously foregrounding hope, resilience, and inner strength.

Rooted in research on color psychology and emotional wellness, the exhibition positions art as both a reflective experience and an active tool for personal transformation.

In conjunction with the exhibition, BDAC will host a hands-on workshop led by Ojha, guiding participants through her process of emotional exploration and abstraction. The workshop offers individuals an opportunity to engage directly with the themes of the exhibition, using creative practice as a means of self-expression, mindfulness, and connection within a supportive community setting.

Deeply committed to community engagement, she serves on the Midvale Arts Council, has juried multiple art contests, and leads the Art Literacy Program at Viewmont Elementary School - where she conducts interactive art sessions to help students develop artistic expression. By nurturing young minds to understand the value of art, she lays the foundation for a stronger, more vibrant future for the art industry. In addition, she hosts regular workshops for adults that focus on mental health and well-being. Aatmica has also presented live painting demonstrations, inviting audiences to experience the spontaneity and emotion behind her creative process.

Her upcoming solo exhibition, “The Art of Taming Emotions – An Immersive Art & Healing Experience + Workshop,” will be hosted by the Bountiful Davis Art Center (BDAC) from January to March 2026. Developed through extensive research in human psychology, this series aims to help viewers experience emotional transformation through color, movement and abstraction; underscoring her belief that art can heal, empower, and connect us all.

Artist Statement:

My artistic practice is rooted in the belief that emotional awareness is the gateway to personal healing and collective well-being. Every human being carries within them a full spectrum of emotions—ranging from heavy states such as stress, anxiety, and grief to life-affirming forces like hope, courage, resilience, and kindness. While all emotions deserve acknowledgment, our ability to consciously nurture the positive ones shapes the quality of our lives.

The Art of Taming Emotions is a visual journey that invites viewers to shift their focus toward these uplifting emotional states. Through layered colors, movement, and contrast, my work symbolizes how positivity can rise even when surrounded by emotional weight. This process of inner reorientation takes awareness and practice—and my paintings are created as gentle companions in that transformation.

Each artwork reflects the truth that even amid turmoil, we possess the power to choose where our attention rests. When we learn to foreground hope over fear and resilience over despair, we reclaim not just balance, but joy. Through this series, I aspire to inspire emotional strength, mindful reflection, and a deeper connection to one’s inner light.
