Brave Like Eve
Curated by Certain Women
Exhibition Run Dates:
01.14 – 03.27
Brave Like Eve reenvisions one of the most iconic origin stories in religious tradition – one that has profoundly shaped societal perceptions of womanhood. Rooted in Latter-day Saint theology, which emphasizes Eve’s essential and courageous role in God’s plan, the exhibition invites viewers to reconsider Eve’s legacy as one of informed choice and sacred responsibility.
The exhibition challenges long-held narratives that have cast Eve—and by extension, all women—in a negative light. We aim to portray Eve as a thoughtful woman taught at the feet of Heavenly Parents, gifted with wisdom to take steps necessary to bring forth our very existence, and courageously faithful to Christ. In doing so, it opens space to rethink how women are seen across history and culture—no longer burdened by shame and subjugation, but honored as brave, like Eve.
The Certain Women Organizer’s biographies
Laura Erekson is a Utah-based mixed-media artist whose work explores the layered terrains of womanhood, motherhood, and memory. Drawing from printmaking, painting, and sculptural processes, she uses botanicals, found objects, and tactile impressions to build richly textured surfaces that echo cycles of growth, resilience, and transformation. Her ongoing Metamorphosis series reflects the shifting identities of motherhood, often created in collaboration with her children, whose gestures and collected materials become active marks within the work. Erekson holds a BFA in Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture from Brigham Young University and an MAT from George Mason University. She has exhibited throughout Utah and beyond, including gallery shows, museum presentations, community installations, and large-scale public art sculpture in West Jordan. Her practice extends into education and public engagement, where touch, participation, and embodied experience remain central. Through both intimate works and monumental projects, Erekson invites viewers to consider the impressions we carry — and the ones we leave behind.
Nicole Woodbury’s work combines nature’s awe and wonder with mathematical and scientific elements, using mediums like marbled porcelain, steel, glass, and string to express the beauty of celestial design and human purpose. She earned a BFA in Studio Art from Brigham Young University and has been featured in several prestigious shows, including the 11th International Church Art competition and exhibitions at the Springville Museum of Art. Woodbury is also a co-founder and organizer of the Certain Women Art Show and has been recognized for her contributions to the art world, including on BYUtv’s ARTful in 2023.
