Food, Nourishment, and Cultural Memory
On View: July 23, 2027 through November 5, 2027
Food, Nourishment, and Cultural Memory invites artists to explore food as sustenance, symbol, ritual, and a connection across cultures, generations, and communities.
From ancestral recipes and shared meals to agriculture and food production, food carries stories of identity, survival, care, migration, and transformation. This exhibition explores how food preserves cultural memory, connects us to our histories, and reflects traditions that evolve across places and generations.
Artists are encouraged to interpret these themes through personal experience, cultural traditions, observation, or experimentation. Submissions may explore nourishment and labor, abundance and scarcity, celebration and grief, or the sensory qualities and transformations of food.
Textile as a Cultural Tool
On View: January - April 2028
Textile as a Cultural Tool invites artists, artisans, and designers to explore textiles as both material and method, connecting traditions, generations, and communities through creative expression.
From ancestral techniques and inherited knowledge to contemporary technologies and experimental practices, textiles carry stories of identity, memory, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage. This exhibition explores how textile traditions preserve knowledge, communicate meaning, and evolve through new materials, processes, and artistic approaches.
Artists are encouraged to interpret these themes through traditional craftsmanship, personal experience, cultural practices, or experimentation. Submissions may explore storytelling, family traditions, fashion, sustainability, the relationship between maker and material, or the role of textiles in everyday life.
A broad range of practices is welcome, including weaving, embroidery, quilting, dyeing, knitting, crochet, fiber sculpture, garment design, installation, and experimental or interdisciplinary textile work.
This competitive exhibition has a $20 application fee, which helps cover the administrative and curatorial costs of organizing this annual showcase—including compensation for our guest juror and the prizes for the artists. As a nonprofit, these fees allow us to continue offering meaningful opportunities for emerging artists across the state while maintaining a high standard of exhibition quality.
