NONE OF US KNEW IT COULD BE SAID: JUSTIN CHOUINARD
OPENING RECEPTION : NOVEMBER 17, 6-8 PM | ON VIEW : NOVEMBER 17 - DECEMBER 23
Artist Statement:
In layers of emulsion hides threads of love, contempt, embarrassment, broken friendships, abuse, compassion, domestic violence, and empathy. Staged photographs from family gatherings, candid shots of siblings and parents, and friends smiling together in frozen frames do not often show the unspoken emotions held by their participants. This series pulls apart the complex layers of these social and familial interactions to allow wounds to air and secrets to speak. Each piece features hand manipulated film slides from discarded and forgotten family collections. No digital processing or altering has been used.
